It Ends With Us

by Colleen Hoover

I’ve never dabbled in Colleen Hoover’s world before, but with the recent film adaptation of It Ends with Us and all the drama involving Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni (Team Justin, by the way), I thought, “Why not give it a shot?” So I picked up the book and... well, it was a ride.

The story was pretty engaging, and I’ll give Hoover credit for handling the topic of domestic violence with sensitivity. However, I found myself scratching my head over the protagonist’s romantic choices. Ryle was like a walking, talking red flag factory from the moment he appeared—seriously, he was giving off major “stay away” vibes, yet she seemed inexplicably drawn to him. I couldn’t shake the “ick” factor.

As for Hoover herself, her controversies are well-documented, and they’ve left me with a less-than-stellar impression. If you’re tempted to dive into her books, maybe think twice. Or if you’re feeling adventurous, you might want to put on a pirate hat and consider some piracy instead! (wink! wink!)

Disclaimer: While I made a playful reference to piracy in my review, I want to clarify that I do not advocate for or condone illegal activities, including pirating books. My intention was simply to inject some humor into my critique. I encourage everyone to support authors and the literary community by purchasing books through legal and ethical means.
