Done & Dusted by Lyla Sage
Second chances, small-town charm, and a love that rides in when you least expect it
If you're looking for a heartwarming small-town romance that blends humour, healing, and a whole lot of swoon, Done & Dusted by Lyla Sage might just be your next favourite read.
The story follows Clemantine "Emmy" Ryder, who returns home to Meadowlark, Wyoming, after an accident leaves her unable to face the thing that’s always defined her — horses. With her confidence shaken and future uncertain, she seeks solace at her family’s ranch, only to come face-to-face with Luke Brooks — her older brothers’ childhood friend and the charming local bar owner who’s grown up quite well since she last saw him.
Luke and Emmy have that perfect slow-burn, tension-filled chemistry that had me rooting for them from the very beginning. What starts off as playful banter (and old habits of teasing) slowly unfolds into something deeper and incredibly sweet. Watching them try to resist their pull toward each other, while simultaneously helping one another navigate past traumas and fears, was so satisfying.
One of the standout aspects of this book for me was the portrayal of ADHD — specifically in a romantic lead like Emmy. It was refreshing, validating, and honestly emotional to see some of the very real relationship struggles that can come with it portrayed so well. As someone with ADHD, I really appreciated how Emmy’s experiences were handled. The narrative didn’t shy away from the harder moments — like her panic attack — but instead treated them with compassion and authenticity. And Luke? Total book boyfriend material. His calm, understanding nature in those moments won me over completely.
There’s also a dash of spice (nothing too heavy, but just enough to raise your pulse a little), which was the cherry on top of an already delightful read.
Done & Dusted is the first in a series, and if this debut is any indication of what’s to come, Lyla Sage is about to gain a permanent spot on my TBR. This book was light, fun, and full of heart — the kind of romance that makes you feel seen and leaves you smiling by the last page.
